Together with Studio Flox, we designed and animated a sequence for the short film ‘Yamina’ with director Tobias Mrosek.
Studio Flox did a great job with the stop-motion animation of the characters. The animated dream sequence of a little boy was to be based on the oriental form of the little prince. Furthermore, the animation was to be designed in a silhouette style by Lotte Reiniger.
To achieve this look, the characters were first designed as vectors and then cut out of cardboard with a plotter and the individual limbs joined together. These were then placed in a stop-motion frame-by-frame technique by Studio Flox, animated and photographed in front of a light table, just as Lotte Reiniger would have done.
These image sequences/animations were then loaded back into the digital environment and enhanced with further digital effects.
